Privacy Policy
Hanzi Fog is designed for private, offline study. We do not collect, sell, share, or track personal data. No account is required and the app makes no network requests for analytics, advertising, or user profiling.
Data collection
Hanzi Fog does not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, contacts, photos, location, device identifiers, advertising IDs, analytics events, or any other personal data. There is no sign-in, no account, and no server-side user record.
Local data stored on your device
For the app to work, the following is saved locally on your device only: bookmarks, spaced-repetition review progress, quiz results, recent searches, theme choice, language preference, and other in-app settings. This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us or to any third party. iOS UserDefaults is used to remember these preferences (Apple required-reason API category “CA92.1”, same-app use).
Permissions we do NOT request
Hanzi Fog does not request access to your microphone, camera, photos, contacts, location, motion sensors, calendar, reminders, or local network. Chinese pronunciation uses Apple’s built-in text-to-speech, which runs entirely on your device.
Network and tracking
Hanzi Fog does not use third-party advertising, third-party analytics, tracking SDKs, cross-app or cross-website tracking, attribution frameworks, or server-side user profiles. The app does not require an internet connection to function.
Erasing your data
You can erase all data the app stored locally at any time: open the app, go to Settings → “Erase all data”. This removes bookmarks, review progress, quiz results, recent searches, and resets every preference. Deleting the app from your device also removes all local data.
Device backups
If you back up your iPhone or iPad to iCloud, iTunes, or Finder, Apple includes Hanzi Fog’s local data in that backup. That backup is governed entirely by Apple and your own backup settings. We have no access to it.
Apple services
App Store downloads, in-app system services, and text-to-speech voices are provided by Apple and governed by Apple’s privacy terms, not by us.
Children
Hanzi Fog is a general learning tool suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in the future, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
